squirt neurotoxins apparently…
Lovely.

A wasted youth, amateur naturalism and a fascination with creatures… but I think that’s a fire salamander.
November 15th, 2008 at 1:43 pm
And if you’d found a small dragon in the woodshed, I’d be really impressed.
November 15th, 2008 at 2:02 pm
Dan is correct. Now you have to read Harry Potter to figure out which house you’re in…
Sadly, there are only cats in the woodshed.
Edited to add: so is Lynne. Must check my approval queue more often. If they squirt poisonous stuff, I wonder if that was what burned Lyttie’s lip that time?

I reckon that is quite likely Sue - if they are nesting nearby, and he had a bite, it could have been quite nasty.
I remember the state my kittens got into once when Oliver nibbled a toad.. he frothed for hours! But luckily, no burns.
Are your two still as inquisitive?
November 15th, 2008 at 3:25 pm
p.s. somehow I just KNOW I would be in Hufflepuff… sigh.
November 15th, 2008 at 3:28 pm
Ah, but Lynne, remember what Dumbledore said:
“It is our choices, Harry, that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities.”
So the Sorting Hat tried to put me in Ravenclaw, but I said I’d rather be in Slytherin with Snape and the Malfoys…
November 15th, 2008 at 4:12 pm
But my colours are yellow and black, so the fire salamander will be very happy with me there…
and I get to meet the ghost of Cedric. He was a Nice Boy. My mum would have approved of him.
I am somehow not surprised that you would want to be in Slytherin. Subversive rebel that you are. Try as I might to be interesting and exotic, I will always be a Hufflepuff. :{

oooh, he’s a beauty. I mean, the lizard. And Cedric.

Okay, thing I didn’t know before today:
http://www.lost-in-france.com/wildlife-in-france/14-fire-salamander
Fire salamanders like to hibernate in damp logs, and so when a log was thrown on the fire, the salamander would come out: hence the belief that they lived in fire.

Have you seen him since? is he ok?
November 23rd, 2008 at 12:04 pm
Haven’t seen him since - he should be hibernating by now, I think, so hopefully he’s holed up in the shed somewhere.
November 23rd, 2008 at 8:00 pm
Aw. Maybe you’ll have little sparks in the spring…
